The Florida Building Commission approved Storm Catcher® Hurricane Wind Abatement Systems for Statewide use. This product was the first to be approved under the category of “New and Innovative Envelope Products” with the Florida Building Commission.
The Storm Catcher® Screen is a lightweight, Geosynthetic fabric used to protect buildings from hurricane force winds and driving rain. It is ideal for protecting large openings such as lanais, storefronts, windows and entranceways. Storm Catcher® is also an ideal way to cover garage doors as an alternative to the cost of a hurricane door.

NEW PRODUCT UPDATES
As the leader in innovative product design, Storm Smart is committed to bringing new improvements and technologies into the market. We are pleased to announce three new developments in this area.
Rolldown Screen
As you know, Storm Smart is the only screen manufacturer to offer an approved roll down application. This has proven to be an unbeatable product when compared to a roll down aluminum shutter. In what is the latest of our continuing efforts to make this exclusive product even more suitable for large openings, we proudly announce our roll down screen has been successfully tested for widths of up to 24 feet. We expect to submit the engineering documentation to the Florida Building Commission in time for the January 2008 Review meeting. Formal approval should come soon thereafter. In the meantime, should you have a job that requires a roll down screen at the new width, site-specific approval can be obtained.
New Screen Color
We have received much feedback from dealers regarding customers wanting a lighter color screen than is currently offered. We have now developed a new color we hope will meet the needs of those customers seeking a softer color screen. The new shade is called BONE, and is now available for orders of any size. It is ideally suited for pastel-colored homes. A picture of the new color is displayed in the sidebar on the left, compared to our other three colors. This has caused quite a lot of excitement since its introduction earlier this month. Make sure you let potential customers know about this new option and re-visit any leads that may have decided against screens due to lack of a suitable color choice.
Direct-Mount Screen Pouch
Our simple, direct mount grommet screens have been very popular with homeowners, particularly those with a do-it-yourself attitude. One of the suggestions we've heard from these customers is they are looking for a way to store the screens in place when they are not deployed for a storm. Several methods have been used, such as rolling up the screen and wrapping plastic ties or velcro straps around the screen to hold it in place. While we do not recommend leaving our screens deployed full time, we do recognize the convenience of being able to store them in place without totally removing them. So, our direct-mount screens now come equipped with a sewn-in storage pouch. Included at no additional cost, and attached at the top of the screen, this pouch is not visible when the screen is deployed. When not protecting the opening, the screen can be rolled up and tucked inside the pouch for storage without removing the screen from its mounting hardware. All direct-mount screens will be made in this fashion, unless specifically noted on the order form.

MY SAFE FLORIDA HOME: OPPORTUNITY PLUS!
TALLAHASEE, FLORIDA - The State of Florida's My Safe Florida Home program continues to offer reimbursement to Florida homeowners who take steps to make their dwellings more hurricane-resistant. The program offers homeowners who have a single-family home with an insured value of $300,000 or less the ability to apply for matching grant reimbursements of up to $5,000.
The first step is for homeowners to get a free home wind inspection, ordered through the My Safe Florida Home website. The inspection results in a printed report that outlines the hurricane readiness of the home, and recommends steps that can be taken to alleviate the potential damage. The homeowner then uses that report to get estimates from hurricane protection companies (that's you) for the work they want performed. After the approved work is completed, the homeowner can then apply to receive the matching funds from the State.
